Mit der Bahn anreisen

Es gibt nur wenige Amtrak-Verbindungen. Dallas/Fort Worth und San Antonio liegen auf der Strecke Los Angeles - San Antonio - Fort Worth/Dallas - St. Louis - Chicago (Texas Eagle), Houston und San Antonio auf der Stecke Los Angeles - New Orleans (Sunset Limited). Von Oklahoma City gibt es eine Verbindung nach Fort Worth (Heartland Flyer). Es gibt nur Fernzüge und keine Nahverkehrsverbindungen. Weitere Auskünfte bei Amtrak.

Fahren

PKW: Texas ist über verschiedene Interstate Highways gut mit den angrenzenden Staaten verbunden; der I-40 führt z.B. von New Mexico im Westen bis nach Oklahoma im Osten, der I-35 von Oklahoma im Norden über Dallas und San Antonio zur mexikanischen Grenze im Süden von Texas. Das Straßennetz befindet sich einem sehr guten Zustand.

Grenzübergänge nach Mexiko sind in McAllen, Brownsville, Laredo and El Paso. Man sollte sich an den Grenzübergängen auf sehr lange Wartezeiten einstellen.

Maut: In Texas gibt es mehr mautpflichtige Straßen als in den meisten anderen Staaten der USA. Das Texas Department of Transportation stellt online die Karte 'Toll Roads and Toll Bridges in Texas' mit sämtlichen mautpflichtigen Straßen zur Verfügung.

Alamo und National bieten bei Anmietung eines Leihwagens für die Nutzung bestimmter Mautstrecken den TCC-TollPass Automatic an. Mit diesem Pass können die 'Fast Lanes' des Anbieters TollPass genutzt werden. Ansonsten sind die Mautgebühren direkt an den Mautstellen - zumeist mit Kreditkarte - zu bezahlen.

Bus: Greyhound, das zu Flixbus gehört, fährt u.a. regelmäßig nach Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio und zu anderen größeren Städten in Texas und den Nachbarstaaten. Flixbus fährt u.a. nach Houston und San Antonio.
