In San Francisco herrscht ganzjährig ein mildes, mediterranes Klima. Der kalte Kalifornienstrom sorgt für kühle und nahezu regenfreie Sommer, was ungewöhnlich ist für diese Breitengrade. September und Oktober sind die heißesten Monate. Die Winter sind eher mild und niederschlagsreich, die Temperaturen sind meist über dem Gefrierpunkt. Typisch für San Francisco sind die morgendlichen Nebelschwaden, die vom Meer her über die Hügel ziehen. Die beste Reisezeit ist das Frühjahr, wenn die Temperaturen angenehm mild sind.
